CSC Supporting Multiple Sclerosis Patients
CSC is happy to announce that we are teaming up with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to support South Carolinians who are battling this autoimmune disease. The Compassionate Care Act lists Multiple Sclerosis as one of the qualifying conditions to obtain legal medical cannabis, if the patient is under a doctor’s care with their recommendation. A representative from the society made quite an impact on many legislators, presenting his personal story to the democratic caucus during the CSC sponsored lunch on the first day of session. Doctors and their patients should be able to decide the best course of treatment for the individual.
If you are a MS patient, family, friend or caregiver, please mark your calendars for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s State Action Day at the statehouse on March 20, 2018. Let’s show our solidarity in support of patients throughout the state that need more effective and less harmful medicine than what is currently available to them. We will update you on more specifics as we get closer to the date, but please plan on participating if you are able to do so. Share your story with lawmakers alongside the National MS Society on critical policies impacting people living with MS. Your voice is needed to raise awareness and support priority legislation. CSC support and lobbyists will be available as well to coordinate legislator meetings. Please email Judy at [email protected] if you are interested in setting up an office appointment with them and would like assistance.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is also working on a bill that we are supporting involving a tax credit for home modifications. Many patients need to modify their homes which can be a very costly necessity for living at home and having a better quality of life. Offering people a tax credit for these expensive endeavors will help minimize frustration and facilitate the regaining of their independence. CSC will provide updates as to when this bill will be dropped and further details as it progresses.
